Restorative Yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures over the course of an hour.

Restorative yoga is a completely different experience than most other styles of yoga. It’s important to slow down and embrace the power of rest, sometimes, that’s hard for us to do in such a fast paced world.

Restorative yoga is suitable for practitioners of all levels. It is a restful practice that holds yoga poses for a long duration using props like yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga—restoring the body, mind and spirit.

Restorative yoga is a powerful antidote to stress because it down-regulates the sympathetic nervous system, which is in charge of the flight or fight response and up-regulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest, digestion, energy conservation and slowing the heart rate.

The only work that’s required on your part during a restorative yoga practice is to pay attention to your breath and become aware of any sensations or thoughts that may arRestorative yoga is a powerful antidote to stress because it down-regulates the sympathetic nervous system and up-regulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for rest, digestion, energy conservation and slowing the heart rate.

Yin yoga
Yin yoga is the perfect practice for a person who works out often, your average athlete. “It is yoga for the joints, not the muscles”.

Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised. Props are often used in this practice, blocks, bolsters, blankets and straps. very seldom do the students even leave the floor. This practice is extremely relaxing and meditative even though it is providing incredible stretches.

Suitable for all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

Gentle
Gentle yoga is a gentler style of hatha yoga practice. It is performed at a slower pace, with less intense positions, and usually includes extended time for meditation, yogic breath work, and relaxation. A gentle class usually includes more warm up movements and the yoga postures are often held for longer times. Modifications are done to help people of all fitness levels enjoy the benefits of yoga without putting themselves at risk for injuries. There is a stronger emphasis on stretching, seated poses and low-impact movements in these classes.

Power
Power yoga is designed specifically to improve muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance. The poses are challenging, and you move from one pose to the next quickly. It provides a good physical workout and unlike some other styles of yoga that follow the same series of poses each time, power yoga classes are seldom alike. Power yoga is focused on building strength and endurance. It is also an excellent form of yoga for burning calories.

Even though Power yoga isn’t an official type of yoga, the term is sometimes used interchangeably with Vinyasa yoga.

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. Commonly referred to as “flow” yoga. This type of yoga is good for all levels, modifications are always offered.

Mellow Flow
Mellow Flow is about getting the heart rate up by breath work and movement. A full workout is achieved in the first 40 minutes and the last 20 minutes of class are very gentle and restorative. The best of both worlds!

Yoga for a Healthy Back
This is a very gentle class. Small flows are done during the first 40 minutes, stretching out the body working specifically with the spine, the last 20 minutes are all restorative postures.

Happy Hour Aerial
This class consists of standard yoga postures, using the hammock as an extra prop. Possibly helping with balance and getting deeper into the stretches. There might be an inversion or two in the class, but modifications are always offered. This is a great class which combines floor based yoga with aerial yoga. Breath and meditation are also focused on. When we are so comfortable with our floor practice, we want to take it off the mat! That is what this class lets you do!
